Frequently asked questions

What makes Montreal special?

Montreal runs on hardware Servury owns and operates. The physical machines are in our colocation rack. This gives us full control over the stack, which is how we offer features like disk encryption, BYOIP, and reverse DNS that other locations can't.

How does disk encryption work?

You can enable LUKS2 full disk encryption from your dashboard at any time. The server reboots into a Dropbear SSH environment where you set your passphrase. After that, your root partition is encrypted and only you can unlock it. We never see or store your passphrase.

What is BYOIP?

Bring Your Own IP lets you announce your own IP prefixes on our infrastructure. You prove ownership via RPKI ROA (cryptographic proof from your RIR), and we announce your prefix over BGP. Fully automated, zero admin review.

Is Canada part of Five Eyes?

Yes, Canada is a Five Eyes member. That said, we collect zero personal information and keep zero logs. There is literally nothing to hand over. Combined with disk encryption where only you hold the key, your data is protected regardless of jurisdiction.
