Why Hong Kong
Fair
questions
Why Hong Kong rather than Singapore?
Distance. Hong Kong sits far closer to mainland China, Taiwan, Japan and Korea, so North Asian traffic reaches it in roughly half the time. Singapore remains the better pick for Southeast Asia, India and Australia. If your users are in North Asia, take Hong Kong.
What latency can I expect?
Under 5ms within Hong Kong. 30-50ms to Shenzhen, Taipei, Tokyo and Seoul. 30-40ms to Singapore. 150-180ms to the US West Coast.
What hardware runs these?
AMD EPYC 7B13 with NVMe storage, and a 1 Gbps unmetered port on every plan.
Can I get disk encryption or BYOIP here?
No. LUKS2 encryption, confidential computing, BYOIP and reverse DNS are Montreal features, because Montreal runs on hardware we own and operate ourselves. Hong Kong is a standard VPS location.
